The Oyo State Legislative Watch Initiative has successfully trained 15 core participants in a capacity-building programme focused on legislative advocacy, democratic governance, accountability, and citizen engagement.
The training, which brought together young leaders, civil society actors, and governance enthusiasts, was aimed at strengthening participants’ understanding of legislative processes and improving civic participation in governance at both the state and grassroots levels.

Speaking during the programme, facilitators emphasized the importance of active citizen involvement in policy formulation, budget tracking, and legislative oversight to ensure transparency and responsive governance. Participants were also exposed to practical sessions on policy analysis, public communication, advocacy strategies, and community mobilization.
According to the founder, Tomilola Omorilewa, the initiative is part of broader efforts to build a new generation of informed citizens capable of engaging lawmakers constructively and promoting democratic accountability in Oyo State.
Some of the participants described the training as impactful and timely, noting that it expanded their knowledge of governance structures and equipped them with practical tools for advocacy and leadership within their communities.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining programmes that promote civic education, legislative transparency, and youth participation in governance across the state.
